High Speed 1 and London & Continental Railways
In 1996, London & Continental Railways (LCR) was selected by the Government to build and operate the high speed Channel Tunnel Rail Link - as it used to be known - and to own and operate the UK arm of the Eurostar international train service.
High Speed 1 is more than a high speed line and is leveraging in over £10billion of investment in regeneration at key sites along the route. LCR and its subsidiaries, working with key business partners, are helping to design and construct Stratford City, a new metropolitan centre for east London. LCR is also working to create a vibrant new part of London - King's Cross Central - and is actively promoting the development of regeneration opportunities in the Ebbsfleet Valley area.
